Christmas in the Meadows is just two days away!

It's not too late to get a gingerbread house to add to the gingerbread village. They are available for $4 from the office. We have some great events lined up including the Christmas store where children can buy presents for their family for $1 - $5, parents no peeking! free hot chocolate & cookies, family sing-a-long, the Kindergarten Choirs & the Concert Band, photo booth, crafts and the Book Fair in the Learning Commons. Please help fill the Mitten & Toque Tree by donating new mitts and hats for those less fortunate in the community; and we are collecting non perishable food for the

Orangeville Food Bank.

Lots Going on - Updates for the last couple weeks

A few updates for everyone.

A warm welcome to Virginia and Laura who have stepped in to be treasurer and secretary this year. Kelly and Brenda make up the balance of the executive positions as co-chairs. Welcome to all other new and returning members. Many things would not happen at our awesome school without you.  We are always looking for extra hands so please contact us if you would like to help out.

Congratulations to all the participants at the cross country meet earlier this month CMES was well represented.

Thank you to all those that supported our Vesey spring bulb fundraiser. The bulbs have left PEI and should be in this week. We will get them out as soon as they come in.

Today marks the end of an era as it is our Food Day Co-Ordinator, Nancy Turner's last food day at CMES.  Thank you, Nancy, for all your hard work over the past 5 years.  We will miss you!!

Dear Families,

Regrettably, I will not be returning as the Food Day Coordinator next Fall and food days will not happen unless someone steps up to take over. After volunteering for five years, and assisting for several years before that, it is time for me to move on to new challenges. If you, or a group of parents ­ (round up some friends, it’s a great opportunity if you want to get involved in a positive way in your child’s school;) are interested in taking on a rewarding challenge, please let me know. I am more than willing to train, mentor and share what I have learned. It is rewarding in ways that you would never think.

The Food Days do not have to look anything like what we have now. Make the Food Days fit your schedule and life. Only free on Fridays? Move them to Friday ­ set the schedule to what works for you. I can share the pros and cons of various options.

Our past lunch days have allowed us to raise almost $20,000 a year with the money going directly back to our children to cover the costs of such things as Scientist in the Schools, emergency bussing for walking field trips during inclement weather, field trip subsidies, anti bullying presentations, new technology, recess equipment, playgrounds, sports equipment, shade trees and many other initiatives. If no one steps up, we will have to cut back on the initiatives that we support, and, or rely on more traditional forms of fundraising, such as giftware, chocolate sales and magazine subscriptions.

Two quotes that have motivated me over the years are “ Be the change that you want to see in the world.” and “If it is to be, it is up to me.” Are you the change? It’s time to pass the baton on to the next group of parents. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, even if it is just to learn more about what is involved before making a commitment. Our Hero, Everyday!!

Congratulations to CMES' hero, Nancy Turner, on receiving a UGDSB Everyday Hero award last night. The awards were presented to 10 recipients at a ceremony in Guelph. Nancy, we appreciate everything you do for our school and community, and we couldn't be more proud, or happy for you! Thank you!

WOW!! The CMES Bike Roadeo was a huge success! We had 70 participants for the Bike Roadeo and tomorrow morning we will announce the top participants that are going onto the town competition. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Happy Friday! Just a reminder that the CMES Bike Roadeo is on Monday. Students need to bring their bike in good working order, helmet, a bike lock , and the permission slip that went home earlier this week. There are extra permission forms available in the front lobby. Have a great weekend!

Due to extenuating circumstances beyond our control, some students received pizza instead of the pasta that they ordered. In order that we had enough food ready for everyone to eat by the second nutrition break, we opted to serve pizza to the older students. Those that don’t normally order pizza still received their pasta; no one went hungry. Last Thursday's Math Night in the Meadows was a resounding success!! Thank you to everyone for coming! We hope you had as much fun as we did!

The CMES Bike Rodeo is taking place at school, next Monday, May 16, 2016. Permission forms have been sent home. Please have permission slips returned by Friday, May 13, 2016. Thank you! :o)

Hot Dog!!

WOOHOO! Tomorrow is already Wednesday, which means it's Hot Dog Day!!

Thursday is Smoothie Day!! If, due to the inclement weather, CMES is closed tomorrow, Smoothie Day will be postponed until Tuesday. If it is a no bus day, Smoothie Day will go ahead as planned.

CMES School Council is very excited to be working with Headwaters Farm to School in implementing the Growing Home Local Food Club. Families have the opportunity to purchase a bag of locally grown food that will be delivered to the school on a specific date. Along with the food is a recipe and information on which local farm the food was grown. Each bag cost $20 with 10% going back to the school. All money that comes back to the school will be going towards educational programs regarding farming. Forms will be sent home with the students this upcoming week and will need to be returned by April 6th.

Dufferin Parent Support Network Meeting Details

Spring block of food forms have been sent home and are due back next Tuesday March 1.
A hint if you are like me and forget what food day is coming up. Take a picture of your completed form and then you can always reference what you ordered for your kids.

Tomorrow (Wednesday February 3) is Winter Walk to School day  - Its suppose to be wet so wear layers. It is also Pizza Day. There is some controversy with the groundhog predictions as some did not see their shadow but one did. Hopefully spring is on its way.

A happy reminder that our winter block of food days start tomorrow with pizza day!!
