Well we are almost there. Tomorrow is smoothie day combined with Santa Hat day. Friday is Ugly Sweater day and the last day of school before the holidays. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday filled with lots of laughter. See everyone back and refreshed January 5th.

Sneak Peek of one of the many poinsettia arrangements that arrived and are ready for pick up tomorrow. Thank you to all the individuals who placed orders and have worked to pull this fundraiser together. We have raised $1000 !!!!!! This will help with field trip costs and scientists in the school. Ah and just like that Halloween is over and we have had our first taste of winter. I was in Sudbury this weekend and this is was what some students did to mesh the seasons at Laurentian University.

Hopefully everyone adjusts to the time change and picking up some extra time tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for details for an upcoming fundraiser.

Attention all cross country runners: If you have ordered Pasta on Wednesday you will receive it at 11:10 before you leave. Good Luck to each of you 

October has come quickly and so have many activities at CMES. This month includes swimming for some classes, the cross country running meet (Go Cobras), picture retake day and a PD Day (Oct 24). Another exciting event this month is the Walk to school day (This Wednesday) stay tuned for more details on this. Food days also begin this week.

Our school council met for the first time in September and our second meeting is fast approaching. Please join us Tuesday October 14th at 7pm. We will be discussing our goals for the year and how to achieve them. If you cannot make the meeting but wish to take part in the council please contact us. There are many ways everyone can help. Even if you can only spare ten minutes, every bit helps. We are also still seeking to fill the Treasurer role on our executive team. We look forward to seeing many parents on the 14th.

THANK YOU to all the parents who came out to our first School Council meeting of the year last Monday night.  It was a great meeting and we are looking forward to a great year ahead!  We want to welcome the following people who will make up the executive of the council this year....Co-Chairs, Brenda Tervit & Bah Boubacar Caba  (Boubah), Secretary Kelly McKee (& Karen Brown Furey as a fill in when necessary).  We are still looking for someone to take on the role of Treasurer to finalize the executive team.  Please let us know if you would like to find out more about this important role on our council.  We are also looking for 2 - 4 people who would consider coming to the school approx. twice a month (you set the day and time) to be our money counters.  If you would have an interest in this please contact us.  (See the email below).

THANK YOU, as well, for coming out and supporting our Meet The Teacher Open House and BBQ as well as the Bookfair.  It was a great night!  We're hoping that the many who we handed out "Get Connected - Stay Connected" slips are doing just that!  Our plan is to update the blog on Monday of each week and whenever else is needed.  If you like our Facebook page we will be updating that 2 - 3 times a week reminding you when forms are due, special events coming up, what food days are happening that week and any urgent request/needs that arise.  We want you to feel connected to your school.

What a great opportunity for you to come out and meet our new principal and get to know her a little more!  We are so excited for all that she is going to bring to our school...you don’t want to miss out!

Also, each year the parent population of the school chooses a new school council by nominations and voting. This year nominations are due by Friday, September 12 and voting will take place on Monday, September 15th,    If there is more than one person nominated for executive positions.  Voting is open to all parents in the school community.  All elected members will serve a one year term. If you would like to have a copy of our school By-Laws, please email Barb White and she will send them to you.  They will also be available on the School website by the end of the week.  If a role on School Council is something that interests you, then make sure you join us for our first meeting.   Please be sure to read the attached Job Descriptions, along with the nomination form.

FYI:  In order for the School Council to move forward this coming year a new executive needs to be elected.  Please consider if you would be a good fit for any of the executive roles.  (Chair / Co-chairs, Secretary or Treasurer.)  If you would like more information on these roles, please email Barb White and she would be happy to treat you to a coffee and answer your questions.  barbwhite.cmessc@hotmail..com

 

 

New School Year - 2014/15

Wow...it's hard to believe that we are less than 1 week away from our new school year!  We hope you have had a wonderful summer break and are getting excited to begin the new year!

We are looking forward to our first School Council meeting that will be held on Monday evening, September 15th at 7:00 p.m.  Our meeting will be a time to get to know our new Principal, Mrs. Anita Lagundzija-deFreitas as well as establishing the council for the coming year.  Voting will take place for all executive positions as well as general voting members.  The executive positions available are Chair (or Co-chairs), Secretary and Treasurer.  These are vital roles on the council that need to be filled in order for the council to run for the coming year.  If you are interested in finding out more about any of these positions, please contact Barb White at barbwhite.cmessc@hotmail.com.

We encourage all parents to give serious consideration to being part of our School Council in the coming year. It will be held in the evenings.

Meet the New Principal!

Our final School Council meeting of the year will take place this coming Monday, June 9, 3:15 p.m. in the Library.  Our new principal will be coming around 4:00 p.m. to sit in on part of the meeting.  You are more than welcome to come and join us.  Child care is provided.  All you need to do is email barbwhite.cmessc@hotmail.com and let us know your children's names and ages.  Hope to see you there.

I had several of our Act 1 talents on the stage today showing them where they'll stand and gave them a chance to practice....ohhhhh.....you're going to have huge smile's on your face...they are so cute!  I've also been enjoying listening to a beautiful little grade 1 girl practicing on the piano in the front hall for the last couple of weeks...she sounds awesome...you'll be impressed!  Also got to see a pretty impressive Highland Dancer doing her Sword Dance....you have got to see this!

Upcoming Information

Here are some upcoming events and information that you need to know.

1. DFS Fundraiser comes to an end on Monday, March 31st.  Please return all order forms and money in the envelope provided in your package by Monday.  We have to get all the information into the company by the end of the week.  Thank you, again for your support in all our fundraising efforts.
2. Curriculum Night...being offered by the teachers of our school, will be happening on Thursday, April 10th.  A registration and information sheet was sent home on Thursday/Friday of this past week.  They are due back by Tuesday, April 1st.  YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS OUT on this awesome opportunity!

CMES Has Talent!

We are well underway in prepping for our 3rd annual celebration of talent at CMES.  
Date:  Thursday, May 1st
Time:  6:15 - 8:30 p.m.
What:  CMES Has Talent Show, Games room, Craft room, Snack Shack.
Cost:   FREE!  (Snacks will be available for a minimal cost that will go towards
                       supporting our Grade 8 graduation.)
We will be breaking up our talent show into two acts.  Act 1 will showcase our primary students and Act 2 will showcase our Junior & Intermediate students.  There will be a couple of teacher/staff acts mixed into both acts.  It's going to be a great night!  PLAN NOW TO COME AND CELEBRATE WITH US!

1.  PARKING LOT REMINDER.....

1. Drive slowly on the lots,
2. Lookout for children walking,
3. Don't block the flow of traffic through both lots,
4. Allow room for the bus to travel through the main lot.
5. Always keep in mind that there must always be room for a Fire Truck to pass through if necessary.  Please do not leave your vehicle unattended.

For Your Consideration...........parents of grade 4's and up, arrivng after 3:05 p.m. and just have your children wait beside the fence for your arrival so that parents of kindergarten and primary students can get in to pick up their children right at 3:00 p.m.

     MOVIES IN THE MEADOWS Form - Due Tuesday, February 11th

3.  We collect CANADIAN TIRE MONEY to help purchase sports equipment, outdoor recess equipment and other odds and ends that may be needed.  There is a donation box in the front foyer next to  the office door.  Any little bit helps!

4.  With the amount of indoor recesses that we have experienced this year, our students are in great need of more NEW or gently used BOARD GAMES, CARD GAMES or ACTIVITIES that can keep them occupied during indoor recesses.  If you would like to donate either new or gently used (make sure the games have all the necessary pieces) to the school indoor recess supplies, please drop them off in the office at anytime.
